Texas Farmers Union Held Their
101 Convention in Lubbock, Texas

February 12, 2003

Dear Member:

Texas Farmers Union held their 101 convention in Lubbock, Tx.

Some 250 persons attended the 101 year Annual Convention in Lubbock, Texas, January 23-26, 2003.

Interesting speakers at the convention were Gary Condra, Ag Law Specialist; Clay Pederson, Vice-President Administration National Farmers Union; Chris Schepis, Government Relations Representative National Farmers Union; Angie Nichols, Fair Trade Coalition; Larry Mitchell, CEO Corn Growers Association and Dave Frederickson, National Farmers Union President.

Friday night's reception honored the late Joe D Rankin, a past president and 48 years a member of Texas Farmers Union into the Pioneers of Agriculture. Crosby County presented a very moving program about Joe and his life's work with Texas Farmers Union. The Executive Board of Texas Farmers Union Charitable Fund has set up a perpetual Scholarship Fund in memory of Joe, and contributed a large amount to get it started. Anyone wanting to send a memorial for Joe may mark the check Joe Rankin Scholarship Fund and mail to the state office.

ACTION ALERT:

Please deliver the news release to all your local Media so we can be sure the public is aware of what is going on. Also, send a signed copy of the Country of Origin letter to both Senators and to your congressman or congresswoman. If you need more copies you can get them off the TFU web site or make your own.

RALLY in Austin Monday March 3 at 11:00 A.M. on the South Capitol steps. Bring a carload of friends. WATER is a RIGHT not a COMMODITY. We have only two choices now, get involved or lose our democratic rights. I will do all that I can to keep you informed, so watch our T.F.U. web site if you can. Stay in good spirits and keep up the good work.

Sincerely,

Wes Sims

President, Texas Farmers Union
