Texas Farmers Union
Vice-President Joe Rankin
Passed from Life in Lubbock, TX

January 3, 2003

Dear Member:

Christmas Eve morning at approximately 11:30 a.m. Texas Farmers Union Vice-President, Joe Rankin passed from this life in the hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Joe was an active and loyal member of Farmers Union for forty-eight years.

Joe dedicated his life to working for the benefit of independent family farmers, ranchers and rural communities and never wavered in his effort to present the facts if he was in the White House, State Capitol or the halls of Congress.

Untold numbers of people across our great land benefited from Joe's commitment to public service and most were never aware of his efforts, but that was of little concern to Joe. You see, he always understood his reward would not be great fame or fortune but in the joy and satisfaction of the doing.

Thank you Joe, dear Beth and all the family for the sacrifices you made throughout the years for the benefit of family farm agriculture for all of us in the Farmers Union Family.

Please take note!!! The 2003 convention is January 24 and 25 at the Four Points Hotel in Lubbock, Texas. The executive board appointed Mike Oldham, a farmer from Shamrock, Texas to serve as Vice President until the convention where there will be nominations and an election at that time.

Our National President, Dave Frederickson will be there with other interesting speakers and programs. I look forward to seeing you all in Lubbock.

Sincerely,

Wes Sims

President, Texas Farmers Union
