One hundred (100) years ago ten men following the leadership of Newt Grisham chartered the Farmers Educational and Corporative Union at Point, Texas. A new idea with a new mission, "an organization to work for the benefit of independent family farmers and ranchers," was born.
T.F.U. members will be meeting January 25th and 26th, 2002, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to hold our annual convention and to celebrate the Farmers Union centennial. Also, T.F.U. will host the National Farmers Union convention in Irving, Texas, March 1st - 4th where we will celebrate the 100th anniversary with an all day trip on March 2nd to Point, Texas. T.F.U. will also sponsor a "Texas Night" the evening of March 1st for all convention attendees.
First, I am hopeful you will each attend the conventions because there will be many interesting national figures speaking as well as numerous programs of interest relative to production agriculture and our rural communities.
I am also asking you to make a budget fund contribution, if you can, to help with the additional cost of hosting the centennial convention. Return the enclosed card along with your check in the enclosed envelope to our state office.
Because of the concentration of the markets brought about with the money and power of the multi-national corporations causing lower and lower farm gate prices, there is as great a need for Farmers Union as there was 100 years ago. Working together as the Farmers Union family we can, we must and we will bring progressive change.
God bless America,
Wes Sims, President
